What are the dangers of replacing my dead turbo.

A few months back i bought my neighbors 1993 6.5L Turbo diesel 2500. Well the turbo works as well as a screen door on a submarine, i mean not a peep. Now, i have the money to get a new one, its in the works and such. Having lived beside this truck for the last 15 years or so, i cant ever remember hearing the turbo spool up, and ive been around it quite a bit over the years. Now my question is, having had the turbo inoperative for possibly years, could there be any issues with simply putting a new one in and firing it up. Intake is perfectly clean, it runs like a champ, always starts up right away, grey smoke on startup.

how well could a turbo motor run with an inoperative turbo? i would think it would restrict airflow, but im a noob on turbos...

nope there should no problem, my truck had a bad vaccum pump for like a year. put a new wastegate on it it ran like a pro. however, if your doing a TM i would suggest a boost gauge and get a pyro gauge as well.

How do you know the turbo isn't working? Is the shaft seized or broken, or does it smoke a lot? I'm not familiar with these trucks, but factory set-ups are generally designed to be as quiet as economicly possible to avoid NVH complaints from consumers. You're probably right that it's not working, I just would hate to see you spend a bunch of money to replace the turbo and have the truck continue to behave as it already is. And x2 on the boost and pyro gauges.

6.5's make about 8lbs of boost and you will not hear them over that clatter of that motor.

Trust me the turbo is not spinning at all, the engine is also pushing 405,000km.

It will work just fine. No worries

With that many kilometers, it may have other issues not related to the turbo, though. Just be prepared :c:

I have 5 in stacks with a TM and I can only hear mine under 1800rpm
