6.2 Questions

I'm new to the Fourm and new to the Detroit 6.2 in my 86' Chevy Blazer that has eather 47,000 or 147,000 or 247,000 miles on her. I am lookig for better fuel mileage, right now I'm getting around 16 to 20mpg depending on traffic and my foot. As far as lift and tires she is at stock hight and is on 31's with 3.08 gears and the 700r transmition. I have read most of the Posts on the 67 pages here dealing with the 6.2 that have helped me to fix a few things(Like my glowplug relay and my new glowplug bypass :jump:) but i still have a few questions;
1. I have a 2.25" dual exaust with mufflers, is it benificail to upgrade to say 3" IF I do not have plans to add a turbo?
2. As far as Fuel Injectors go are the SSDiesel True Marine Injectors ( SSDiesel Supply :: GM 6.5 TD Specialists ) any good for my application or just a waste of money for me?
3. The intake is black and oily inside what shouls i do to clean the CDR valve? If it is bad where can i fine a replacement?
4. In the Florida heat should I add a Transmition cooler and a +1 pan? I know that Diesels like the heat but Transmitions don't
5. I ran in to a old Diesel guy from up North that told me not to run additives in the fuel because they eat some seal in the injector pump is this true?:humm: right now I'm using XDP Diesel Power Plus ans addind a little 2 stroke (thanks to this fourm:tu:)
thanks
Leo

Brake parts cleaner for the CDR valve, don't add anymore fuel unless you plan on getting a turbo. Even then, your not gonna gain too much power and maybe a 2-3 MPG. Def. get a better transmission cooler, cause the 700R4's don't like heat, period. Speaking of which, service the transmission (fluid and filter) and get a deeper pan. When driving, keep it in 3rd so your not constantly shifting in and out of overdrive (that's how they get hot and that shortens the life of the transmission severely).

Are you talking about the pumps fuel screw? If so I did not want to mess with that if I did not need to. Things like the Injectors (do the the unknown mileage, idle time, and maintinance:humm:) and the exaust (thinking air flow and a little CDI facter:rocking:) were things that might help with the MPG.

Not really. Maybe a bit of an MPG increase but minimal. I wouldn't be tearing out a good 2.25 system just to install a 3". I would go 3" if it was ready to be replaced though, extra cost over 2.25 on replacement is small.

Marine injectors are a waste of money on a 6.5 TD, more so on a NA 6.2

Soak in diesel or kerosene overnight. was and dry with plain soapy water. Usually, once they're gone they're gone. Viton diaphragm inside ruptures and it's garbage then.

Oil in your intake is more likely from a bit more blowby than a newer engine. All these GM 6.X's have oil in the intake. High mileage ones have more....

Worthwhile if you tow.

False. "Old Diesel guys" should stay that way, time has marched on.....these are the same guys who will tell you you should add transmission fluid to your diesel....:w2:

Avoid additives that list alcohols on the label.
