93 6.5 upgrade help please

Hello, I just joined and I am looking for some help on upgrading my 93 6.5. Looking to get larger injectors and maybe a larger turbo. I know that 92-93 differed from 94+ 6.5s (mechanical to electrical) and I have had some trouble finding parts that will work on the 93. If anyone knows where to find parts like 40hp marine injectors and what all is needed to install a GM-8 turbo or similar on a 93 6.5.
Thanks for any help guys, MUCH appreciated!

waste of money for marine injectors
bigger turbo= blown motor

what you need is a bigger exhaust and crossover pipe
turbo master
move the pmd if you havent
fluidampr
and stock injectors

I agree with ebarresi with one exception. 93 doesnt have a PMD.

You might also look at the Turbo Wastegate upgrade. I have a 93 and agree with your findings. There are not alot of upgrades out there since they only ran for 2 years with that set up. I had to put a new motor in mine shortly after purchasing it due to a cracked head:argh: (well didnt have to replace it, but buy the time I would have paid a mech to change the head and replace head gaskets, I could purchase a new engine for the same price, so I did and put it in myself)

Thanks for the replys, I am a little confused though, not arguing just curious. Why would upgrading to a GM8 lead to a blown engine? I would only be running 10-12 psi nothing crazy. The GMX turbos are all stock 6.5 turbos correct?, so wouldn't you be able to interchange them without any risk since they all come on relatively the same engine from the factory?
Thanks again guys.

A gm8 will bolt right on.

You will have to swap on a mechanical wastegate control as the gm8 has a vacuum pot to work with the later vacuum control system. Bill Heath makes a mechanical one or you can make your own.

There will be some gains by going to the later gm8, but it's minimal.

Another turbo option is an "a team turbo". Google will turn up a seller if you're interested.

A bigger turbo does not mean a blown engine. 10 psi from a holset or 10-15 psi from a gm8 is still the same 10-15psi. Higher pressure means a blown head gasket. If you swap on a holset without lowering the pressure output to around 10-15 psi, you may be changing head gaskets sooner than you want. The crank may also give, the main webs may go or tired rings may just start terminal blowby. Piston crowns have been know to fail in high mileage engines with excessive pressure.

Fluid dampr is nice, but more of a longevity thing. I have one on my optimizer. Stock damper will work just fine, just make sure the rubber is in good shape.

Marine injectors will get you higher egts and not much else.

More fuel is just a turn of a screw away for you as your pump is a db2 so it's mechanical. Later trucks are dn4 and need either a chip or a re-flash.

A diamond eye 4"'exhaust will see some gains.

Your 93 has no pmd. That's for later OBD/obdII trucks.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot more available for the mechanical trucks in the way of speed parts.

1993 exhaust

SSDIESEL Has complete exhaust kits for the 93 6.5 Turbo. I just ordered the Performance downpipe & Muffler - will fabricate the rest locally. Freight to Canada is Expensive.
