High Idle and cold weather ?
 

I have a high idle switch that gives me 2 higher idle speeds, 1100 and 1300RPM.
It would be nice to leave it set on the 1100 speed when I park at night for a quicker warm up in the winter. I am afraid of doing damage to the motor by starting it on remote at -20 and leaving it run at 1100 from a cold start till it is warm.
I run 0-40 full synthetic, but even this oil is thick and slow at these temperatures.
1100 RPM just seems like quite high for an ice cold motor, and I don't want to throw a rod etc. because I am being impatient. Also if it is ok to use the higher idle how will this efect starting when it's very cold?
I plug it in , and the block heater, and Oil pan heater do work.

I'll would think the bock heater would keep the motor warm enough even for the oil and depend hold long you keeping plug thought if just 3 or 4 hrs no all night yes it will be ok

i usually started myn let it idle for a few min then go high idle it. just work it into the morning routen. basically start it do a few things, put on pants take a s*%@ then quickly run out flip the switch and come back in and finish up until your ready to go. i had the same concern and my motor is worth more to me then being cold for 30 sec to flip the switch imo

i cant 1100 hurting anything personally. its not like you are putting it to the gov. old internationals with t444e used to have a sticker telling you to idle at 1250 i think during cold weather. i set the idle speed in my dirty old cummins to 1000 rpm so it goes to that every time i start it. if it were mine the quicker it warms up, the better it gets lubricated in my opinion. does the remote starter wait for glow plugs?

I start the engine, wait for it to finish it's after glow cycle and make sure the oil pressure is up. Takes less than a minute.
Then I flip the 1050 switch and give it 1-2 mins while I clean the snow/frost off the windows.
