Is a '94 6.5 not able to be chipped?
I have a buddy with a 1994 Chevy 6.5 crewcab dually who is wanting to sell it because he was told by a shop that his year truck is not able to accept any electronic devices to increase HP. His only options are supposedly a turbo or injectors. Being that I know nothing about the 6.5, I figured I'd ask the guys who do. So is his truck worth keeping or should he sell it and find something more able to pull his horse trailer? He says it drives fine until he hooks up the trailer and then its terrible slow. What would he able to do to his truck to increase HP for minimal costs? Thanks for any help.

You have to get a reprogrammed chip in the ecm. There are a few places that make them.

Here a place call and talk to Bill Heath
Here a link Performance Upgrades for GM 94-95 6.5T Also think KOJO make program for 94 Yes it worth keeping i pull 16,500 lbs 5th wheel For HP get 3"dp 4"exhaust back will wake up , Putting tow chip program with turbo master turn up boost to 15psi delete vac pump put in some good injectors and put 2.75" cross over pipe. He would think he got new truck One more thing get air filter setup from 97 + truck and take the plastic snokle out the fender and with all that make sure you put boost and EGT gauge in |
From recent experience for poor performance while towing, I would check the vacuum going to the wastegate to make sure the turbo is being allowed to work for him. It's like I have another engine in mine since I did the manual wastegate modification.
