97 6.5T accelerates on it's own.
 

I have a 97 6.5 turbo pickup that sometimes acelerates on it's own while driving. It will take off , downshift anf acelerate fast, then go back to normal.
Sometimes it is repeated, then other times it may be fine for days.
Otherwise it runs great, has tons of power, starts easy.
Where do I look?
The PMD was replaced not to long ago by the previous owner, and it is on a heat sink now on the motor.
I am new to diesels.

could be the PMD going south on you not good place under the hood need to be in the front bumper

Is there a way to check the PMD? is it to late to move it?

best way check it have spear one or maybe some one you know with 6.5 let you try there PMD

Thanks for the link. Below is a copy from their diagnostic page. It does not look good for the pump.!!

"If your truck over-responds to the throttle and revs up very rapidly at only light throttle application, or revs up on its own, internal injection pump wear is almost certainly the cause.
In 99% of cases if you have the classic 6.5L stalling (and no optical sensor codes) the problem is the PMD and the reccomended solution is our FSD Kit! "

before i buy IP i would buy PMD it cheaper

With very little knowledge I keep thinking about how a failing pump can cause a vehicle to accelerate. Doesn't make sense to me. Obviously the pump puts out , so is it a matter of some controler inside sticking? Could a fuel suplement type cleaner possibly be a fix? The problem is intermittent, and usualy worn out things are not intermittent, but sticky parts can be.
Just thinking out loud here, trying to save a few bucks if possible. Both these parts are not cheap.

Well the problem just got worse and worse till it was not safe to drive. :argh:
These PMD's are a rediculous price!!, but I found one cheaper than GM's$500. PMD .
There is no justification to the prices for the little black box. I can get a lap top computer for the price of a PMD!!:dang:
Especialy since they fail so often.
I got an extension cable and PMD from Edam in northern Quebec with a 1 year warranty and a new resistor, and relocated the PMD form on top of the intake to behind the left battery, and the old truck runs great. I thought about behind the bumper, but it would get a lot of snow there, and most likely it would get submerged in a creek in the fall.
No more taking off on it's own. It feels like a new beast now.:jump:

Just for the record the PMD that failed and caused the aceleration was a Dtech.

call d tech and if your pmd was part of a batch of bad pmds they will give you a new pmd. yes d tech knows there are problems they just wont release the numbers to the public
