83 5.0 gas to 6.2 swap questions

Getting ready to start the swap this weekend. What do I need to do to get this thing going?

I have the flywheel and converter from the diesel setup. I have the whole wiring harness but it came out of a motorhome, not sure if it will work. Is there any wires that I need to change or add? Sorry about all the questions, I'm new to the diesel world. TIA

More details needed on the swap. What are you putting the 6.2 in ? There is alot involved. Also check with your local emmisions laws. You may not be able to register the truck. It is against some state and Federal laws to convert even though alot of people do it anyway. really depends on what laws where you live. Just wanted to throw that out there. IN CT it would work only because of age but anyhting 25 yrs or newer would get bounced.

The 6.2 is going in an 83 k10 with a 700r4 trans with 1 ton running gear. The truck does not have hydroboost. I'm not worried about the emissions as the truck is exempt in NY. I already have a big block radiator and a heavy duty trans cooler, not sure if a need to change anything else.

You are going to need the hydroboost. There it's a pretty strait forward swap. You need the big block radiator, The right torque converter and may need to have the governor springs adjusted in the trans but I am not sure it may be fine. You will also need to make a glow plug system which can just be made with a ford starter solenoid.

Thanks for the info. I'll be pulling out the 305 on sunday and will cleaning up the frame to get it ready for the 6.2

You also need to run another line o the tank for the fuel return. Expect it to be loud as the gasser cab won't have the soundproofing that a diesel equipped model does. The CUCV's didn't have it either and it's pretty loud. Not sure on the electronics if any with that trans and making the Lockup work but the diesel version of a 700r4 is DEFINETLY different. I know I tried to use a gasser one in my old 91 Jimmy that had factory 6.2 The TC was differnt and the valve body and there was some sort of electronics to it. Mine was a 91 so it had an RPM sensor in the vac pump but I don't think the older 700's used that. Don't expect that tranny to last too long. 700's are junk and the early ones being the worst.
