which alternator? and U joints.....changin em
 

hey guys, gota 00 6.5 sierra sle... autozone says there are two serpentine belts for the truck, apparently two different alternator options... how do you go about figuring which one u have? they dont carry the old belt anymore so i cant match up numbers...


also any tips on changin the universal joints on the read driveshaft? thanks guys

There only one alternator that came with these truck that i know of

there was an ambulance model with two alternators so i would get the shorter belt. my local auto parts store will let you return a belt if it doesnt fit as long as its not used or too dirty so i would see what there return policy is and you can test fit the belt. Changing U joints can be a bitch. your going to need a lot of heat, a vice, and aome different size sockets to push the joints out.

did the u joints today... my first two ever, had dad help me and was glad of it!! the first one was difficult but we mastered it pretty quick! def wouldnt even attempt another one without a torch nearby!!!


as for the belt... ive gota cross the border to pick the new belt up to save a ton on the price.... should i just go for the shorter one... i dont see why they culdnt match the numbers up from the gatorback that was on it??? they say they dont carrry the gatorback at the nearest autozone here anymore? wierd
