motor change

1996 gmc k1500 4x4 . i have a 6.5 turbo diesel, and was wondering if i could change out to a gas motor, how hard it would be to do this, and what size of gas motor would be best?

First thing is why do you want to go to a gasser? It would be a bit of a job to you would need to get a throttle cable and figure out how to change to a gas ecm. It depend on what you are doing with the truck. If you are just driving it a 350 would be fine or a 454 if you where towing. The only problem is nether of them will ever deliver the fuel economy of the diesel.

I am disabled and don't have the money to keep repairing my diesel. The ip is way to much for me to buy new. I bought a used ip last year and it lasted a year. It has went out again, so I was wondering if it would be smarter to go to gas cause it wouldn't cost as much to repair. At this point I just don't know what to do. If you think keeping the diesel would be better I guess I should stay with it. Just trying to figure out what would be best for me. Thanks.

it would cost more to switch to gas and keep it fed than to keep the diesel

are you sure it IP that bad there lot thing on 6.5 that make look like IP

Let us know what truck is doing

Buying a used pump is kind of a crap shoot but I have been there to. You might try just getting a rebuilt one. You should get more than a year out of a pump. New ones are warranted to around 100k. There are things you can do to make them last longer. Keep clean fuel filters on them, make sure the lift pump is running properly, and run a little 2 stroke oil in them.

Have replaced the ip once. It did the same thing as before. Just died and would not start back up. I bought a new pmd last year also. I have tried the old pmd and it still wouldn't start. The pmd is not bad so that's why I know its the ip. Same thing as last time i

did you test the LP for fuel at T-valve and check all grounds and clean them

I know the l/p was weak to but failed to replace it. I have new l/p and glow plugs also to install this time. I have another used ip that I just got hooked up. Started putting it all back together and my back went out on me so I have to wait now. I will let you know when I get it back together again. I'm positive its the ip. Like I said I was just wanting to know what would be bettergo with gas or stay with diesel. So I guess I will stick with the diesel. Switching over sounds expensive. What about a different diesel motor. Would that be an option. And if so what diesel motor would be best

you could put a 6.2 if you wanted to keep it diesel and not have problems but then theres all the electronics
the best bet would be a tbi 350 because you can get a ecm and motor and everthing and its easy to set up but you would have to put a differnet fuel tank in because gassers have pumps in the tanks
i would just sell it and get something gas with good fuel economy unless you need a pickup because of your disability
