Engine Washing

Have a question, I want to wash my engine and and the whole underside of the truck to get it cleaned up and all the old oil and grease off the engine and engine compartment, i have the 6.5 turbo, is it safe to degrease it and high pressure wash it? is there anything I need to cover so it can't get wet????

MMmmmmaybe?

I think you'll find most here with diesels don't wash their engines for fear of releasing electrical demons in the process. I was strongly advised against it but did it once, anyway. I let the engine cool but left it slightly warm to the touch last summer. Then I sprayed Simple Green all over the engine, air tubes, turbo, etc and let that stand for a few minutes. Then I went at everything with a scrub brush. Then I flushed it all with an open ended garden hose -- almost no pressure, but lots of flow. The engine and everything else under the hood looked immaculate! I let all that dry with the hood open for about 15 minutes and started it with no problems. Hurray for me, right?

Well, maybe not. Now, in the cold my Ex starts hard like the module that commands the glow plugs is screwed or my air intake heater is not working.

Your choice. But I would not use a pressure washer no matter what.:c:

i have pressure wash my 6.5 but before i started i cover all plugs at back of engine and the
fuse box and the ABS box with some clear plastic wrap and then jack the front end high i get it reason for that is you have wiring harness running under the intake with some plugs that way water can run out back of the valley and also put some wrap over IP buy putting wrap it just helps try keep water out plugs then let sit in the sun and dry and make sure you keep the pressure washer on low if can or keep far back from every thing
