what oil should i use
 

I have a 96 Chevy 2500 4x4 6.5l diesel and a 95 ford f250 4x4 7.3l powerstroke. What type of oil should I use for them. What brand and weight. Is wolfs head synthetic blend good. They both have over 200k miles on them.

Welcome to the site. Almost any oil will treat you right. 15/40 is probably the preferred weight with your years and models. Never heard of Wolfs head myself, but a syn blend will offer some advantages. Kinda depends on their condition. Do they leak or use oil? If so, your best route might be just dino oil...rotella, delvac, etc. If no problems, syns and syn blends may be an option. Just your preference and what kind of maintenance you'd like to do.

No they don't use or leak oil at all. So what brand would you perfer then

Well I'm a little partial but it depends on what you want the oil to do for you. If you plan on changing oil every 5k, then sticking with a dino makes the most sense unless money is no issue. If you'd like to get more out of it, then syns might be an option. I used amsoil in my 94 dodge that had 250k. It used a qt every 3000 when I bought it but I used amsoil anyway....just because:). It didn't get worse, which can happen and after 15k it actually improved which was a suprise.
If you took a poll, most would say to use rotella or delvac, the two most popular and accessible dinos out there. If you wanted some benefits of syns(cold weather performance, extended life, etc.) then you can look at amsoil, mobil, schaffers to name a few.

Bottom line you can't go wrong with any oil as long as you use it as it is intended.

No Roseville is in Ohio. I want a good oil that will hold up when I work the truck or if I just want to drive it.

Any of those mentioned will do the trick. Be glad to talk you into mine but it does cost 2-3 times the dinos if you're not familiar with it. It's meant to run 10-15k in all conditions.. or farther.
If I wasn't using amsoil, I'd go with a mobil product.

It can. The diesel oils actually are warrantied for 3x the OEM interval. Not sure what it is on the older trucks but today's are around 7500 so you can run them about 20k. I don't like to run those lengths cold turkey without doing an OA at midstream to see how things are performing. It sometimes uncovers other problems. Once I do that and everything is ok, then I run 15k no problem. I've gone 28k with mine using OA. That's about how far I could go before the soot content got too high for me.

Wow thats a lot. Well thankyou. I will look into buying amsoil. Is fram a good filter to use or is their a better one to use?

Again, if you took a poll, fram would probably not make the list. A lot of people like to stick with OEM. WIX, Donaldson are good.
