turned up boost and pump question.

Ok i followed the banks instructions and turned up my pump 1/4 turn. It felt good after that. The next thing i did was add springs to the waste gate. Boost went from 4psi to close to 10psi. Now it feels like i could use some more fuel. My egt is really low. I would like to turn up the pump another 1/8 turn. But i have been reading around and come across some post stating don't go beyond 1/4 turn. Should i or shouldn't? Whats the worse that can happen if i turn it too much?
I have a 93 1ton 6.5td (mechanical pump)

how high are your egts?

ggrrssyydik 06-25-2010 12:05 AM

barelly hitting 100F. I have it on the manifold right before it gets to the turbo. Whats a safe range?

Woody35 06-25-2010 12:21 AM

you mean 1000F degrees right?

ggrrssyydik 06-25-2010 12:26 AM

no, it only reads 100f

Unless the guage is broken.

something is wrong with your gauge or probe because it gets a lot hotter in those pipes then 100 degrees.

Check your EGT wires where ther're running through the firewall for abraision. It looks to me like you're shorted out somewhere. Also anywhere the wires could have gotten hot and melted. Ground on the guage could give you problems too. Your max EGT you can run is around 1100 deg. Think of it this way. When you are at full throttle and you're packing as much air into the system as the wastegate will allow the air is being compressed to produce more CFMs, and when you compress more air and fuel it becomes more combustable because the molecules have less rome to bounce around. This causes heat exponentially with the more air compressed into the system. Your turbo can easily produce 15 psi boost sustained and 17 short burst, so at 10 psi I highly doubt you are running high EGTs. I run mine safely at thoes specs and I only have to watch it getting close at 1100 deg pulling 10000 lbs up steep grades. I usually turn down the boost before hauling heavy loads or I peak my boost. Like I said, when that turbo climbs, the EGTs follow. You wouldn't have any problems touching something that was 100 deg, but would you touch your manifold at full throttle pulling a load up a hill? Dumb question right? Post up what you come up with. PM me if you need help!:tu:

No, Its the original one for a 93.
