travel ?

So my question is, do I need to do any special mods on my 94 6.5td for long distance highway type driving? I've never driven it farther than maybe 100 miles at a time without stopping. My next trip is about 800 to 1000 each way all highway. I already have a transcooler, boost controller set to about 11,electric fans, straight 4in downpipe back exhaust, and a cold air intake. O and the truck has about 290k on it. Any advice would be great.

carry an extra fuel filter along in case you get a bad batch of fuel. maybe a few tools. you never know what will break. spare pmd too

I would carry a extra fuel filter and a pmd with me. It is not necessary to carry the pmd but I have had to many of them fail away from home. There is some on ebay they are used but tested good and there only about $40 they make a nice spare just in case. I have a couple of them and a extra resistor in the truck just like you carry a spare tire. Other than that you should be fine in fact high way driving is where these trucks do best it gets them up in the rpm where the make the best power.

Thanks for the advice. Ill definetly look for a spare pmd, from what I've read it pretty common. I think I've got everything else so I should be good. Ill be on leave from the airforce so I definetly can't afford to break down.

thanks for your service! be cautious of those old pmds. test them on your truck before you go on your trip. there used so they can break at anytime.

I would plug the used pmd up to the truck also just to make sure they are good. I wouldn't recommend relying on a ebay special but they make a nice cheap spare to get you home.

Thanks for your service.

im pretty sure i know you are talking about on ebay. i think his name is edam or adam or somehting like that. anyways some people have gotten screwed by him and others havent so its kinda of a crapshoot

It's ebay it's always a crap shoot. I have bought a couple of them from him. I carry two of them just so incase one is bad. If you can afford the $250-$300 for a new one that would be better.

i agree

Well I'm happy to report that I had no problems out of the ole 6.5 all the way back to florida. I got about 23 or so mpg runnin 80. But, the next morning I went out and climbed in it to go somewhere and I had no powersteering or power brakes. Evidently the pump shaft broke when I restarted it. Is this a common problem? And is there an aftermarket pump that's stronger that I should invest in?
