Injection Pump

Hey i have taken intake, fan, ect but my old pump is now out..Since i am already at the timing chain i would wanna advance the timing is this worth doin? if so how would i do this...? now i am changing the pump from excessive black smoke. would this make the truck smoke really bad again

I have not heard of any one advancing the cam timing on a 6.5. I would probably just put it strait up. You don't have to take that much off to change the pump. You can get to the bolts through the oil fill and turning the engine over.

i think he is talking about advancing the injection pump timing. it looks like you have a 96 so you need a scantool like a tech2 or carcode or autoengunity. need speacial pump wrenches or you can make your own. no it will not make more black smoke if you time it to the right specs. it will be more responsive and better mpg.

sit down you got some reading to do. come back with questions

I was not for sure if he was talking about the cam or the pump. I would probably advance the pump.
