I guess question I'm thinking about getting a 1998 3500 6.5 diesel truck it's in pretty good condition that's a four-door 4x4 it has 187,000 miles on it. I just wonder how much it's worth it's for sale at a dealership.

Just checked after fixing exhaust leaks. Getting 19 on secondary roads (not Highway, but in the country 60-65 mph). only real upgrade is 4" Exhaust and upgraded to high flow filter from a 97. That is in a 2500 suburban 4X4 with 230,000. I can live with that. Last check with towing was 13mpg with 6000lb 28ft bunkhouse.

97 K1500 4x4, extended cab, 8' bed with full ladder rack, tow package with 3.73 gears

When I first got the truck from my Dad I was getting 15 something.

It is a daily driver work truck, and I almost always get low 14's in the city and driving in the burbs while loaded with tools. Recently drove it 260 miles on the highway and only got 14.7

However, that was making 80 mph the whole way.

I need a little input from the experts so I came to the forums

With my 1994 K2500 6 Lug ViN S 6.5 turbo I'm averaging a little under 13 MPG. Everyone's saying that these diesels are getting up around 18 MPG easily but I certainly am not. Since I have a 6 Lug K2500 I have a ViN S engine so yes, I have all the emissions garbage. Still has stock intake, stock exhaust, and I have a heavy foot (turbo sounds nice). Just wondering what should be my first steps to improve on my MPG, and dont say take it easy on the throttle cuz we all know that wont happen
