Exhaust manifold

Does the 1993 6.5l td have gaskets between the exhaust manifold and the engine, or are they directly mated to the engine without them? The reason I ask is that a gentleman over at Heath Diesel said they don't, and one of the two manuals I have says it does. It refers to removal of the manifold and making sure the gasket is cleaned off well. Then the other manual I have gives no reference to the gasket. So I hope you can see why this is confusing to me. Thanks.

That's what I thought, too. Thanks, Woody. I think I have an exhaust leak, and was trying to start eliminating things. If it is from the manifold, what would be the best way to clean it after I get them off.

well if you had access to a sand blaster that would be the easiest for you but if you dont i would get a knotted cup brush that you put on a drill. i used that for cleaning my intake manifold and my tranny pan when they were off.

Looks like the exhaust leak is between the turbo and the down pipe, either a busted/loose flange or a crack right on top of it. So I guess my new exhaust project just jumped up a few months, rather than dismantle it, fix it and put the old stuff back on. Now as for what type. I think I am going to go with the 4" aluminized from SS Diesel, including the 2.5" crossover pipe, new hardware and tip. Now I just have to convince my wife. I don't really plan on having this truck for more than 5 or 6 years, so the stainless steel option doesn't interest me, especially for the increase in price.

i would check the clamp first to see if its busted.

I purchased a 4" exhaust from warp speed performance with a new crossover pipe and stainless steel tip. Should be here next week and I hope to have it on in a week or two.
