Cooling system?

I recently bought an 84 Grumman Olsen p30 with 6.2L diesel. I bought it under the assumption that it had a bad head gasket so had it shipped home. Before I decided to tear into it I started it up and it so far runs fine. I let it run for quite awhile 45+ mins and there were no signs of overheating, coolant loss anywhere or bubbling coolant in reservoir. I increased the rpms and monitored temp gauge and it goes about halfway up then drops as it should once the thermostat opens. Top hose gets nice and warm bottom hose quite a bit cooler. If anybody has any pointers as to any other tests I might be able to do is greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Phil

Hello Phil if you want piece of mind get a head gasket leak detector most auto parts places have these as loner tools all you have to do is purchase the leak detector fluid this is less than $20 and in about 30 minutes you will know if you have a bad gasket or possibly a cracked cylinder head, If that checks out OK I would drive it a bit make to see if it overheats if so you could be looking at maybe a bad fan clutch or even debris in the fins of the radiator.

Good luck Mayhem.
