Alternator not putting out correct voltage
 

Ok, I have a 93 Chevy C 3500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel the alternator is not putting out the correct amount of voltage I put a remanufactured alternator 105amp Ridge I checked all the grounds the grounds are good have you alternator tested alternator is Good batteries checked and tested twice they test out good there is no PMD on his truck due to mechanical fuel injection trying to figure this out I do not know if I would need to get a bigger alternator with higher amperage or not

Checked belt and connections and checked out good. Put new ground wires for battery

Any advice?

know which model alternator? I'm thinking it will be like the common 3 wire. One of those wires being a voltage reference wire. It would give the alternator feedback of the voltage usually from the fuse box area. This helped make up for voltage drops when you have higher electrical loads. Putting 13.6-14.2v at the fuse box vs just at the alt output stud.

I don't recall if you said high or low voltage. Check with an actual volt meter. The dash instruments are ground sensitive and may not me the most accurate.

I'm think you may need to check out that feedback wire. May look to see if there is a corroded splice or any other bad connection.

A way to cheat would be to hook the voltage sensing wire to the alt output and it would let you know if that were the issue. Many people run the GM 3 wire alts like this.

The alternator is draining the battery it's a four wire connector to the alternator the alternator output is 12.7 and my batteries are fully charged they are brand new the wires from the alternator to the batteries are good include the fusible links this is like the 4th alternator has been burning up there is voltage going to the sense wire is getting 12 volts and just keep on going through alternators I just put another alternator on and it lasted 2 weeks then it's draining the battery again

You have a limited number of possible causes. Bad battery, bad conections/grounds, over current. Your alternator has the voltage regulator built into it. Something is over loading it. Either your current draw is too high from electric accessories or your battery could have an internal short causing an excessive draw. Or, bad connections would make the alternator think it needs to work harder and burning it up. You will need to clean all connections even if they seem tight. Look for evidence of heat. Melted stuff or things that feel hot will point you in the right direction. You can do it... Wooooooo

Checked all the wiring and found no melted pieces or corrosion anywhere. Cleaned battery connections and made sure they are tight. Still getting low voltage output from alternator. Batteries are fully charged and tested with my snapon battery tester. Batteries are good. Even put a new alternator on and had them test it before I took it. Tested good. I put it on and will charge a few days then goes to shit. Sorry for language for virgin ears. Lol. This truck is really ticking me off. Looks like I'll have to do more research and looking
