High EGT during acceleration only
Looking for some direction here. I have replaced most of the drive train and engine bolt on pieces. Recently lost my boost gauge (not getting any black smoke, so guessing that the turbo is still working), but now when I am accelerating the EGT is shooting from around 300 degrees to over 1000 degrees in a few seconds. This is on moderate (turning onto a 4 lane surface street) acceleration. If I accelerate like I am driving a Prius, it will still get up to around 800-900. Once I reach highway speeds, the Temp drops back to the 500-600 range.
I know that gas engines will run hot if the fuel mix is too lean, and since I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, I don't know if the injection pump is not being kept fed. I am getting fuel from the lift pump. The only other issue is that I just started getting a major exhaust leak from both sides of the motor. What are the Expert's thoughts? |

What are the Expert's thoughts? Also check to see that your turbo spins freely and doesn't have play. |
Thanks. Going in for repair on Thursday. Keeping fingers crossed.

Had to replace everything between the heads and Turbo. Both manifolds cracked and crossover pipe blown out at manifold. EGT are running 300-400 degrees cooler and I am hearing the Turbo whine like it should. Will have to see if it behaves when towing the trailer next week. Time to start bullet proofing the engine now.
