Low Range

Did any off you guy's experience this before or have any idea what's causing it ? Driving along and my truck shift's into low range without beaning in 4 wheel drive.. and it won't come out off low range.. shift's all true the gears fine but will not come out.. would this be a Transfer Case problem or something too do with electrical. It's a 98 6.5 suburban.. Appreciate any info...thanks.

had a truck come in the other day that did that, blew the transmission apart. dont know why it happened i wasn't working on it but i was genuinely surprised it was even possible. i would be looking to blame the encoder or an electrical problem with the switch though.

i had a similar issue last year in my transfer case turned out to be the bushings in the shift fork for the range selector, my transfer case would pop into neutral, they sell a upgraded shift fork for the New Process 241 for around $100 it's bushing less I hope this helps and there are YouTube videos on disassembly and reassembly if you are reasonably mechanically inclined it's not all that hard to do and if you do decide to do it get a new output shaft snap ring and transfer case seal from G.M. Both about $8.

On a side note if you dive it long like that you will destroy the synchronizer and that fellow is very pricey.

Cool look over the bushings real good and the fork pads as well what happens is that fork gets slightly cocked and I guess the tourqe is what makes the transfer case shift mine would jump into neutral when I would let off the fuel pedal.

And if you can get a pair of these they help with the external snap ring on the output shaft.
