6.5 Straight Pipe Question?

I wanna straight pipe my 97 6.5 but don't understand exactly what it is. Is it when just straight pipe from the turbo to back? If it is if I remove the muffler and cat will it trigger any codes? If it does should I just keep the cat and remove the muffler?

Thanks, Blake

Hi Blake,
Yes all you have to do is get a sawzaw or something and cut the muffler off. There is no cat on these. Then get some 3inch pipe from AutoZone or something and clamp it on there. I have a video on YouTube from when I did mine

6.5 Straight Pipe Question?

A 97 does have a CAT. You can cut it off without getting codes.

Your truck has what is called a "scrubber," and it looks like a catalytic converter kinda. You can have a muffler shop cut both off and replace with 3" pipe for pretty cheap (100-200 bucks)

However, for the money you should just get the Diamond 4" kit for ~220 bucks.

Your factory exhaust is 2.75". Diesels ain't loud like gas engines. Mine is mellow with both cut off. I wish I would have got the 4" kit now, the 2.75" tip looks so small on that big truck.

Odd like a big dude with a vienna sausage.
