Propane injection
 

Has anyone had any experiments with propane injection on a 6.5 I've heard the gains aren't as good on indirect injected but I've still been playing around with the idea. I've heard more good than bad so far with only one real horror story of piston failure, and that guy admitted he was pushing it. Not looking to use it constantly just on some of the harder hills with my trailer

I researched this awhile back since I have a sbc that runs on propane and my own bulk tank. My opinion was the minimal power gains I could get with a stock 6.5 didn't out way the risk.

I did hear good things about mileage improvement. The thing about that is propane vendors charge double per gallon for filling small tanks. My bulk tank and fill valve was a large investment but I also run some home appliances and a camper on propane.
I rely on my 6.5 for my farm and it only sees 1500 miles a year so the fuel mileage didn't concern me. If you rely on your truck just keep creeping up those hills. If you don't then go for it and let us know how it turns out.

Fuel milage isn't my primary concern, just a little extra umph on the big hills but I'll probably tinker with it a little with conservative settings until I get my reflashed computer. It is my main but it isn't the only one I've got just trying to curb my duramax craving with this truck until I can get another one. But I'll post how it goes. I'd still like to get some more first hand advice before I run it with the trailer

And mine isn't exactly stock it has all the bolt ond aside from a reflashed computer which I plan on being the next addition. I plan on actually building an engine when this one finally goes down (which might be in the near future with propane injection) including either finding or having a crank made for the same stroke as a duramax.

Update.
Put my system together (homemade) did the first test runs and got it running 20 psi through the regulator, not really wanting to push it yet. It's going great, doesn't lay you back in the seat but still a noticeable difference in power on hills and a little over 100 degree drop in egt. Places where I normally lose speed I can actually increase speed on but that's only with about 1000lbs on I'm curious to see what it's gonna do pulling my travel trailer up to Pennsylvania next month. If anyone reading this wants details on the system I made I'd be happy to share. Probably going to play around with proportions a little more later on, hasn't started rattling yet so there's still a little room to play.

I'd like to see/hear about your system. Do you have a auto shutoff on the accelerator? I'm curious how that gets wired in.

Actually I don't yet my uncle and I were discussing putting a microswitch on the pedal for a deadman switch so I don't have to worry about my engine if I have to stop in a hurry but right now Ive got it on a push button I'm only using it on hard pulls. Which is also why I have it turned up so high (actually backed it down to 16 psi yesterday)

At the very least I'm going to put a normally open solenoid valve in the system wired into my brakes for safety. But I'm using a regular 20 lb tank right now with a cutting torch regulator (because it's easier to fine tune) running it through 3/8 150 psi rated oil and heat resistant poly line (similar to air brake line) with a 1/4npt normally closed solenoid valve to turn it on and off (best price I've found is amazon about the only place they aren't 50 bucks each) it's injecting pre-turbo so that it mixes properly and doesn't tamper with my boost pressure. It's a simple design but it works quite well in my opinion

i run it on my 1997 6.5 i get about 28 mpg it works good.
