Throttle position sensor

Does anyone know of a way to check a throttle position sensor on a 97 silverado 6.5 turbo diesel other than installing a new one I have parts trucks with known working tps one a 94 one a 99 (99 tps is brand new changed it about a week before someone ran a red light and t-boned me) that I could switch over but I'm not sure of the compatibility, both parts trucks are gas burners and I'm not sure if they use the same system or if anyone knows if they are compatible with my trucks electronics. I'm not trying to cut corners just hate to spend money on a new part when I'm not certain it's the issue and I already have a new one and a lightly used one already laying around

Alright guess I should have looked the 99 plugs differently and the 94 has a cable nevermind

I had the throttle position sensor (cps) code come up, but when I went under to look at it, I found that the metal piece that bolted the cps in had come loose so that when I removed the nut the metal piece fell off, which must have allowed it to move slightly. I have a 1998 gmc 6.5 TD. I ended up puttiing in a new one and code never came back and truck started up well.
