How good is the 6.5 motor?

I just bought one today truck runs great all stock except a single stack and lift kit have all service records from original owner.
I got a 95 k2500 6.5 with 200k I only paid $2500 it just needs tires and a little tlc.
I don't know anything about the 6.5 only diesels I ever owner where an Isuzu npr and a 7.3 psd.
I was at work today and some guy came in telling me that the 6.5 was a big piece of shit this and that he was pissing me off so I was just wondering how good is the motor if I take care of it.
The truck will be a daily driver no towing except a bass boat and no performance upgrades.

A 6.5 is a great engine although it is no powerhouse and as far as that guy telling you it is a POS tell him his wife/girlfriend sure likes it a lot . lol but seriously that truck should last a long time if maintained properly and if it hasn't been done you will want to do a PMD relocated and have a spare PMD in the glove box.

Well the guy I bought it from just put a new PMD into it and he put it on the fender I want to relocate it what's the best spot because I think he bought the one with the relocation cords. Also have one in the glove box its the old one but it was still working just made the motor have bad response. The truck was maintained pretty good I have all service records from the original owner who he got the truck from but then he got a 67 Camaro and his wife told him to sell one lol. Also harmonic balancer I heard can be a problem whats a good after market one?

You should relocate the PMD to behind the front license plate as this is the best place to avoid heat soak and as for the harmonic balancer I have been running one from NAPA for a couple years now and it seem as good as the factory one.

Just keep an eye on the rubber in the harmonic balancer, when it starts to fall apart its time to get a new one.

It's a great engine, many people love them. You just have to learn how to take care of them and that's not difficult at all, no harder than a SBC.

The best balancer available is made by Fluidampr but it's expensive! Go to Leroy Diesel if you decide you want to buy one. Otherwise, a stock replacement AC Delco will do just fine, that's what I have on mine. Best of luck, ask away if you have any questions!
