UK newbie needs engine ID help!!
 

Hi everyone. Just bought one of USAF's finest Chevy cutaway chassis cabs and need some advice/help with the engine numbers. I've read endless accounts of the engine's short comings, and I think I've been lucky enough to buy a late one with the factory mods required to stop cracked blocks etc. It has a genuine 19,000 miles on the clock and only had light use as a laundry van.

At the rear of the engine on the left I have 12555506. On the right is C160. This has given me the date of engine manufacture as 3/16/2000. I've read all I can find on the history of the engine's development, but I'm not really any wiser as to whether mine still has the faults with oil pressure switches, lift pumps, crank snapping etc, etc.

Can anyone shed any light on the engine and whether I need to be aware of any issues that may develop please? Any advice would be much appreciated.

It is likely vulnerable to all the issues if you go overboard with it.

They all are vulnerable to broken cranks so check the balancer and frt drive pulley for evidence that the rubber bond is loosing adhesion.

Oil pressure switch will not be an issue on 96+ trucks.
