1997 p30 old mac tool truck fuel issues

This van has the Chevy 6.5l diesel motor I believe, the injector pump is mechanical and there is no pmd.

Anyways it has 130k miles and here is my problem.

This started about a month ago and is consistent.

Start van--starts right up and runs really well with the occasional higher idle then settles down, but runs great.

If you run the van and never let it fully warm up it will restart fine every time.
If you run the van till it is at operating temp and shut it down then restart it will restart fine.
However if you run the van until it is fully warm then shut it down and try to start it 20 minutes later it will start then stall about 10 seconds later, then cycle key to off and crank for about 15 seconds and it will start and run fine again.

This problem is very consistent with the 20 minute thing as I run the van and then park it and have to wait for an airplane to take off every night about 20 minutes and the damn thing starts then stalls as mentioned above.

I am guessing the fuel shutoff solenoid is sticking in the injector pump.

Thanks,

Next time no start happens pour water on the IP (Injection Pump) if it fires right up IP needs rebuilding or replaced.

Sounds like there is a fuel leak somewhere letting air in?
check the water in fuel sensor seal and fuel heater seal in the filter housing.
