6.5 boost.... how much will she take?

I have a 97 crew cab full size tub, pretty long thing. it has 150,000 miles on it and I was thinking off juicing her up I have a new 4 inch system made up n just about finished and have a custom air intake that gets air through the front q panel behind the driving lights. I was wondering on how much boost you can safely run through a travelled engine like this one? any advice would be appreciated

I would limit it to 10-12 psi if the stock turbo is being used.

A more efficent turbo might make more usable boost if the exhaust back pressure was reduced?

Others have reduced compression and increased boost for power gains-an 18:1 engine is often reported running 18-21psi and some guys even more than that fior a short time till explosions happen.

Another way to make better use of the boost you have is with an intercoller and/or water injection, the more dense the intake oxygen level the more power can be made from the fuel injected.

thanks mate, i dont want to boost the hell out of the big girl. just wanting to know what is deemed as "safe".... also yes i was looking at an intercooler kit hence the boost question again, not sure how it will fit up with the right hand conversion (for australia). was looking at the kit on peninsulardiesel?... so 10-12psi it is, thanks again.
