6.2L needs help

I got a 85 gmc with the 6.2 diesel in it!:argh: It has a hard time getting fired up in the morning. it doesnt matter if its warm or cold starting fluid has to be used! also it will start and run for about 20 seconds and then it sounds like it ran out of fuel.:booo: so is it something with the fuel filter housing? also it seems to idle really rough lately and it will die sometimes! i need help with reliability this truck is a storm chaser and i dont want it to break in the path of a storm!

my friends old 6.2 did the same thing he had a cracked fuel filter housing that was allowing air into the lines we replaced that and haven't had a problem since

Fuel pump probably isn't doing so hot either, along w/ rotten fuel lines.

but doesn't the 6.2 have a mechanical fuel pump i don't think it is electric my friends sub has over 300k on it and the only things that have gone wrong is they had to replace the TCM and the fuel filter housing because of the crack
