Oil leak.
Evening. I have a 2000 Chevy 3500. It's leaking oil from what looks like the front edge of the front oil pan. It's not dropping quarts but it's dripping a bit every day and the street is looking rough. Does anyone know if replacing the oil pan gasket is an easy DIY job? I've crawled underneath and it seems like there's a frame member running underneath it. I know on a basic gas engine this a very easy job but I don't want screw up what is my daily driver.
Thanks! |
I'm having the same problem on my 93... and It sounds like the front diff has to come out...

I don't have a front diff. Just rear wheel drive.

Lucky...

Oil pan gasket itself not too bad but you will want to do a rear main seal because it is only a matter time before it will start leaking use loctite high strength when putting flywheel and or flex plate bolts back in lots of horror stories on the interwebz with diesels breaking the engine blocks for the lack of thread lockers

Might want to look at the turbo oil drain first?
It is a metal tube that joins with the oil pan by a rubber collar, the rubber rots and is a common small leak. |

I don't have a picture but if you look under the turbo you will see a metaline abut 3/4" around that goes down towards the frt-thats the turbo drain and is joined to the pan by a rubber coupler.
