6.2 Filter Assembly questions
 

Hello all, Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I have a 1988 Chevy P30 step van with a 6.2l diesel. The truck is having hard start problems which I attribute to an air leak in the great Stanadyne 80 box filter. I had a leak through the pressure sensor, which I took out and tapped, semi-countersunk the hole and put an 0-ring in there. While it is not visibly leaking, I am sure that it is with the hard starts I am having. So here's my question. I want to ditch the box filter assembly and go with a spin on such as a Racor or a newer Stanadyne Fuel manager. I want to go this route to retain the water in fuel sensor, and the heater. Any suggestions? Cost IS a factor. Is there a particular vehicle I can find this on in a bone yard that would be plug and play? Thanks again and have a great day!

New fuel manager with the water bowl on the bottom will run you about $130 or so. Try amp diesel 1-866-899-5383

After market is the way you want to go...but the Stanadyne 80 box filter is an easy fix 14 mm id o ring on the fuel heater should fix your problem. The Stanadyne 80 box filter is a really good unit but its Achilles heal is leaking o rings.

If its leaking........by the way look inside your valley pan and check to see if its wet? Or you can smell diesel from it? If it is, its not the Stanadyne 80 box filter.

which people blame all the time there is a rubber fuel hose that goes from the filter to the injection pump. This is where the problem lies its hidden, hard to see, and 99 times out of a 100 this is your problem not the filter housing. $1.50 at your local auto parts store will fix your problem 5/16 rubber fuel line. its hidden under the intake manifold.:c:
