questions about the 6.5 TD
i just bought a 1998 2500 6.5. 180k on body and 80k on the motor. everything is pretty much stock. ive noticed that you cant here the turbo. would buying a 4 inch straight pipe exhaust and an afe stage 2 intake help the turbo sound louder? or anything else help. also would a 15 inch rim fit onto the truck? or is 16 inch the lowest?

I have 15" with 35's on my 98 and the 4 inch exhaust straight back from the turbo and u get a very nice whistle :rocking:

Back to you, 5" MBRP Turbo back. Remove the plastic elbow on the turbo that goes nowhere and replace it with a rubber freeze plug, add a cold air intake. More noise. |
the bigger exhaust lets there be more room for air to come out so thats understandable. i was wondering about the 15 inch rim is cause i have a nice set of tires with 15 inch rim and i heard they didnt fit. did you have to grind anything?

if its 8 stud yes on the back side of the caliper it rubs pretty bad(or did on my old truck) 6 stud no they will bolt right up

dang. yeah this is a 8 lug. right now im looking into ss diesels performance package for a 6.5. hopefully that wakes up the motor a little

There is such a thing as to big of an exhaust. The pipes need to be warm, same effect as flow on a wood burner. The warm pipes help to draw the exhaust out. If you can grab your exhaust and hang onto it immediately after working it hard, your pipes are too big

i was just looking for a 4 inch stright pipe. i thought a 5 inch was too big anyways

honestly I'd save your money I have a 98 2500 6.5 suburban and I've done my research pretty much anything that you add to that motor (air intake custom exhaust bigger turbo even chiped ect) won't gain much horsepower or torque. the 6.5 is just an excuse to own a diesel. one thing that might help you get more life out of that motor is adding an electric fan to the already crapy cooling system as 6.5s love to overheat

The 4" exhaust will make a difference. You will here your turbo better and I even raised my MPG.:rocking:
