Lower oil PSI in the 20-25 range - a problem on a 99 6.5 GMC?
Looking at trading my 96 GMC K3500 for a 99 GMC K2500 that had the motor rebuilt about 30K miles ago. Drives very nice and passed all the 'tests' of what to look for in the driveway - except the oil PSI was/is low.
It holds steady at about 20psi at idle and then runs up to no more than 25 PSI at 2000rpm. My 96 is steady at 40 PSI and the 97 Burb I had ran about 20 psi at idle but would climb to 40 PSI under throttle. He said they did a complete rebuild including the oil pump and a scant crankshaft, new bearings, rings etc. It has a new turbo on it. Any concerns over such low Oil PSI? Thanks and ~GOD BLESS~ john |
If an aftermarket OPS was installed it is likely the problem with the gauge reading-only 1 way to know for sure.
Remove the OPS and connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge there temporarily. |
