Runs good but no Power!

Hello all I hope that my description will be enough for your help.

I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually great condition runs well I have looked and looked I cant seem to put my finger on it but it just has no power. I can drive it but I can't put my trailer on it lol. I will tell you what I have done to it to try and remedy the problem.

I put a new fuel filter and air filter in it I have checked all the electrical connections I have physically un-pluged every connections to see if I could find any corrosion nothing I checked the wast-gate it seems to be working I can hear the turbo working. I do however have to try a couple of time to get it started (cold or hot start) I have even tried slowly depressing the fuel peddle to see if that would help it doesn't when I engage the key I can here the lift pump humming along I have listened for it to stop when it is pressured up and it dose. I have looked for possible fuel leaks noting.

I was told buy some one that I should change the Glow Plugs is that a possibility that they are failing? I don't get any miss fire. I have tried my buddies PDM witch is brand new and no change. I also have a (PMD/FSD Cooler) in the truck. I have changed my oil sending unit the oil pressure reading to the gauge is better than it was but still no change. I'm not burning oil when I'm driving it I can floor it and and there is no smoke what so ever black or other wise.

I just don't know what else to check or fix. witch brings me to you guys I need your help

Thanks in advance :rocking:

The LP doesn't stop pumping when pressure is reached-what you are hearing is the priming cycle that works with the glow cycle.

You may well have bad glow plugs so check each terminal for power when they cycle and get some new bosch duratherm glows if yours are unknown age or function.

You need to verify that the LP is working when the engine runs-I expect so but while it idles safely parked, open the water in fuel drain Tee-valve located at the frt of the engine on the water crossover manifold.

If the truck stalls LP diagnosis is required-if it keeps running and a steady stream of fuel is drained it is good.

if stock exhaust is still on you may have a plugged cat/soot trap?
Or you may have a collapsed exhaust crossover pipe-they are double wall construction from the factory and can be flattened on the inside with no outward signs.

Getting the electronic timing checked could also be wise-if the IP was ever changed without a timing relearn done the IP might require a proper timing procedure to gain some power.

Thank you yes the IP I presume is the injector pump has been changed 3 years ago but there was a timing procedure done on it and it ran great until this year. There is no cat on the exhaust is 4" straight pipe I did check to see if it was bent or broken. since you have mentioned it the crossover could be factory i will check that out too. thanks for your help and direction I will check these things that you have mentioned and let you know what I find.

The easy test for the exhaust crossover is when you get it off-drop a golf ball through,if it comes out the other end you are good to go,if it doesn't it's time to replace it.
