1993 6.5l Turbo diesel No Start after drove for a while?
I have a 1993 Chevy C3500 with the 6.5l turbo in it. I can drive it up the road sometimes and pull into the store and shut it off and when i go back to crank, sometimes it wont start. After sitting for a few hrs it will start back fine any help??

I would check the fuel filter. My old 6.5 did same. Also i would check the purge line. Sounds like it could be an airlock in the fuel system
|
Yeah I have replaced the entire fuel filter base assembly and filters and all. It will run fine, I can drive it for a week for say and maybe one time randomly not start back. BUt after it sits for a few hours it cranks right back up no problem. Didnt know if the 93 had a fuel shut off solenoid or not considering it has the mechanical injection pump and I replaced it recently also. But thats the thing, it acts like it isnt getting any fuel when it wont crank back??

The no start hot is often from a worn out IP-the rotor and head get worn to the point that IP pressures when cranking are not enough to pop the injectors.
Next no start hot try pouring water over the IP housing then crank-if it starts you have your answer because the water shrunk the housing back closer to specs. |
That makes sense on an worn out IP but I have just replaced it with a new one as well as the fuel filter base assembly due to it being cracked and pouring fuel down into the valley. Have chased a lot of different problems with this ole truck and this is the last one that has boggled me?:argh:
-Another problem i have had was periodically the 4L80E would loose overdrive and start shifting hard. Chased that problem and rebuilt one and swapped another and still would get the problem. Finally took the new computer out and put some dielectric grease on all the connections and so far have not had that problem any more, just hope it stays that way! |
Depends where you got the IP from, some rebuilders only really reseal them rather than replace all the wear items.
The head and rotor often get reused by the low buck guys to save money but they should always be replaced with new. |
Ok guys thanks for the input, the pump was the problem, It did it again and didnt start while I was at my friends shop and i told him what you said and i poured a bottle of water over the pump and it cranked right back up! So now since i cant remember the place i got that IP from now I have to purchase another one Yay ME!!!

Pensicola diesel is about the best bang for the buck

Pensacola Diesel's prices are too low to get new wear parts, they probably rebuild with used parts despite their claims.
Accurate Diesel or Kennedy Diesel or Badger Diesel is reported good as well. |
Ok so ends up i did get mine from Badger Diesel and called them and mine was out of waranty but the man told me he had the same problem and the bottle of water on the IP does shrink down to tolerance and can fix the problem but he said i have an underlying issue most likely the TPS. So i jump pin A to Pin B on my OBD plug to pull the codes and i got code 22 and 73 which is my TPS sensor low voltage and A/C Evaporator Temperature sensor circuit error (high temp indicated). Which explains why my A/C dont work all the time but i never set the TPS back when I replaced the IP so now I got to check the voltage which should be .5V closed throttle and 4.5V open throttle. But this also would explain the problems with the 4L80E I have been having. Its always something small you overlook it seems. But I will post back to let you know if it fixes the problem Thanks
