Injectors

Alright, I get enough white smoke on the start now I think its time for new injectors. Its got 198,500 miles and to my knowledge never had them changed, I bought with 186k.

I was looking at standard output ones for $190, and then there are "marine" ones for $210 and then there are "40 hp" ones for $217. I heard that the "performance" injectors are garbage, but I also heard from some people that you can feel a difference in torque.

What are the differences in the three injectors?

And, for 20-27 dollars more would it be worth experimenting to see if these non-stock injectors are any better?

Note: that it will be on a stock turbo setup, with cold air intake and soon to be 4" exhaust, if that makes a difference.

Here's where I'm thinking of buying:
6.5 injectors - Filter Results

Thanks.

Well I did a little more research and it sounds like they could give you the advertised increases, just not on a stock fuel system/programming. Sounds like the stock will be sufficient to supply more fuel if needed.

The only problem I find with their website is that I would need a paypal and quite honestly I don't want one. But if its saving big $$ it might be worth it.

I had marine injectors in a 6.5 and it was a waste of money. They might improve hp with an improved i/p but it will also raise the power curve to a higher rpm for marine use.

The only brand injectors I would put in a 6.5 or 6.2 is Bosch. Too big of a risk one injector nozzle break and its new engine time.

I know Bosch makes a good product, but their injectors cost twice as much, and I'm on a college budget and the last thing I want to pour money into is my pickup, but I get the bad injector = new engine. Probably won't hear back from the company when I ask them for the warranty.:w2: I don't know if my 6.5 is worth putting too much money into, every time I put money in it, some breaks, for example I put new glow plugs and belt in it and a week later my starter went out. Put a new starter in it, two weeks later, belt is already stretched beyond the tensioner.:scare2:

Just curious, how much are the Bosch injectors, on average? I know heath's are 500+ for a set.

I would look into a new tensioner soon mine was bad on my 1994 and wore out 2 altenators within a week the truck had a new engine put in before I purchased it down side was all the orriginal electronics went bad within a year these things can become a money pit if you are not careful

MontanaTechPetroleum 04-03-2013 03:39 PM

So you think the best stretching is the result of a bad tensioner? Where can you buy them (and how much) or can you take the one off and tweak it a little to get it to work correctly?

Thanks.

Mayhem 04-03-2013 07:53 PM

Yes streching is the result of a bad tensioner I got mine from Napa I think it was less than $50 and I dont think you can tweak them to get them to work correctly to tight and you will stress the other components IE altenator water pump A/C compressor and so on

MontanaTechPetroleum 04-03-2013 10:51 PM

Alright, under 50 sounds reasonable, I know when my vacuum pump seized I messed with the tensioner and didn't know what I was doing, probably ruined them. I thought it was just the cheap carquest belt I bought.

I also have white smoke on start up and its kinda slow to start idk if its my glow plugs or injectors but I would love to which injectors to get if I need them so hopefully more replies come soon
