please, very cold morning, started, died, now no power
Ok..it was very cold... truck was not plugged in.. I went to start it...it had a very strained start! suddenly it died..THE TRUCK lost all power no horn,no dash lights...nothing! I checked my battery cables took the batteries to be checked tried to start it and it did then died right away.....never to start again...the interior light came on when I went out to look at it but when i turned the key it went out no other power except i heard key buzzer when i put in the key... again it also stopped when i turned the key... it will repeat this when it is left alone? but if you just pull key and try it again nothing hope one of you guys can help... :s:

Either bad battery, bad cable(s), or bad connections. Usually bad grounds between battery and block. But I have had a battery suddenly die like that. Turn key on, all seems well, turn to start and everything loses power. Clean every connection you can find and then keep looking.

ground good, both batteries good and charged,no other power ever,no dash lights,no horn, fuses checked,no head lights, been looking ,any other ideas,my only transport just turning key to acc. kills dome light :argh:....thanyou for ur imput..........

It is a bad connection somewhere.
Battery terminals where they connect to the cables corroded? Starter cable tight? Power wire to fusebox? |
did not check fuse box power...the other two items i are good.....when i had batteries checked i cleaned everything before i put it back together....is there a way to check the ignition?...just a thought...I am going to check fuse box right now......:humm:

|
I might be wrong....the horn and or dome light does not need the ignition so does that mean something else?
|
Power to fusebox, could have a blown fusible link for the main power as well?
|
OK..just went to check some more things and the dome light was working so i checked the fuse box and i have 12.29 volts i can not find a wire diagram...does anyone know where the main power on this truck comes from and how it travels to the fuse box ....would a fusible link be intermittent .... I check block ground and body ground and have 12.30 volts at both....one more thing I can not locate the ECM....does it have one? thank you all for your input.....new development I just went outside to see if i had headlight when i turned them on the horn and dome light stopped working and now i have nothing again just like when i turn the key? now there is no power to fuse box

You only have a trans computer with a 92.
Do you have an underhood fusebox-I forget if that was offered on a 92? If no then power would most likely travel from the starter solenoid by 1 or 2 heavy gauge red wires to the interior of the truck-check the connections on them for clean and tight where the battery cable connects. Might also be a power center on the firewall where the relays mount? Fusible links are not intermittent-they go or blow. |
