I have a couple questions about the cat on my pickup, how much power does it take away? I would like estimates on for the power. I know it will take a good amount away. I also want to know if a diesel cat is compatible with gas motors. My brother has a 98 dodge 1500 that he plans on doing exhaust work (in California) on and my guess is that if he got the 2 3/4 in cat from me that it would work and he'd get better performance from it.

The cat on our trucks is only a soot trap to catch carbon-they plug up.

There are no precious metals in them that I know of to make the chemical reaction happen that separates the water and carbon from hydrocarbons to clean up a gasser exhaust.

No Idea how much power they steal cause it is a moving target depending on how plugged they are?

My 99 says catalyst right on my emission sticker. And no, the cat off your truck won't work on your brothers Dodge in CA because if the smog guy knows what he is doing he will notice it is not the right cat. He may get lucky, but most likely not.

California catalytic converters also have a number on them specific to the vehicle and they do check them.
