Turbo whistle?
 

This is probably a dumb question but when you hear the whistle from the turbo does it come from the exhaust side or the intake side? I don't hear it at all from my stock truck. Should I?

The turbo whiste originates from the compressor itself inside the housing but the different frequencies of the sound allow you to hear it from the exhaust and intake sides. and with your stock gm4 turbo you wont hear much whistle maybe if a friend punchef it at idle while you were back by the exhaust to hear.(not good idea imo) as long as you dont have black smoke under acceleration your turbos fine for the most part.

These engines weren't setup to whistle. You can get them to, it seems like if you put a 4 in straight pipe system, they do fine, all I got is a cold air and got it to whistle once and my foot was all the way down.

Mine whistles enough! Actually a lot for a sixfive..
Intake, turbo back 4" to 7" stack

On the cheap, lose the muffler and replace with a straight pipe, OR replace entire system with a 4" exhaust system, no muffler. you will hear some whine but it wont be very pronounced. The same with the intake. A large open element air filter will help in increasing whistle, but again it wont be very pronounced. You will hear it, but it wont really be an attention getter. :c:

I took the filter off mine today and let the turbo breath fully and boy did it turn some heads. Not good for the engine, but it was the first time I've turned heads with it. SSdiesel makes an intake that supposed to make the turbo scream, I've never seen one so I don't know if thats true.

Whatever you decide to do, research carefully, and dont cut corners. :c:

I have 5" strait pipe and a intake on mine and she whistles pretty nice. Just go buy a new intake elbow and filter and strait pipe that thing. Itll get you as close as you can get. Oh and take the silencer ring out. Easy job:choochoo:

I've got the SS Deisel supply intake on a 93 6.5 the old turbo screams with it! I do have the 4" exhaust from them as well.

So it may be a dumb question but oh well. If i upgrade my exhuast for the diamond eye would I have to upgrade my injecters?
