I am looking at a project truck. It's not blowing out white smoke like it on fire, I can't smell any coolant in fact it smells like diesel. I didn't check the coolant system for exhaust, The batteries where dead, so we had to boost it. Started easily, ran the boost truck on each battery for 10-15 min.

When idling it's shakes to the drivers side. I am thinking it may be a bad injector/glow plugs, or worst case the IP. However I am no diesel mech, what do you guy's think?

Good chance it is a bad injector or low compression on a cylinder.

Loosen each injector fuel line 1 at a time and try to pinpoint the cylinder involved by noting the engines reaction-beware of the moving parts.

Harbor Freight sells a compression tester for a reasonable amount that screws into the glow plug holes- all glows should be removed for a compression test even on just 1 cylinder-400psi minimum.

Also if you find it is a bad injector-then they should all be changed as a set-every 100,000 miles is a good ROT.

You might also want to try spraying WD 40 in the intake as a starting aid?

The truck other then boosting it, was very easy to start. I will remember that I could use WD40 in a pinch.

I haven't bought the truck, and I am Canadian cheapest Diesel Compression tester is $180...:dang: Next day off I will go up there, and check the blow-by, and coolant system.

ROT?? Where is the fuel filter on this thing? How do you disable the fuel injection system on a diesel? Gasser's are so easy in comparison.

Do you know any good manuals for this diesel? The body and electrical will be easy.

Not sure of the best way to disable a mechanical IP?
Fuel filter is at the back of th engine in the center of the valley held down by a black plastic ring or the en tire filter top may be black plastic.

I just got the truck. :jump: Heck it even ran normal, no smoke, sound good, no miss. :humm:

-No blow-by, cold or warm.
-Coolant is clean, no bubbling

The lift pump might be dead, the T-valve had no fuel coming out. (Almost stalled it opening it.) When I get it, I will test the lift pump.

I have question about injector pump's. I found a Rebuilt IP, with paperwork. It's a DB2-4274, light duty pump from a 1984. Can I use this pump in my truck? It's $300 CAD, to give you an idea $1000-1300 for a rebuilt here.

What glow plugs are good and which to stay away from. I think for now that is all of my questions.

So I guess it will not work? I am very new to diesel.

I am going to buy a new lift pump, on payday. Someone did the OPS relay mod. The wiring is a mess, I am going to have to clean it up. (Random cut wires live...)

I found the injector that not working, or rather somewhat working. All the other injectors, the second i see fuel it runs worst but one only one it doesn't, only when the the fuel is pissing out that it runs worst.

The glow plug with the bad injector, is wet. (the glow plug is good.) I guess it diesel, but can it be oil? (not sure, just asking.) I didn't smell it, because my hands smell like diesel right now.

Every glow plug wire has a fusible link that can burn out as well as each set of glow wires for each side have an additional fusible link for all 4 wires.
