6.5 or Cummins turbo on 6.2
 

So I finally got the glow plug situation fixed and id like to turbo the truck in my signature. I am going to put head studs and better head gaskets on it. My question is, should I just swap a complete 6.5 turbo assembly on it, possibly slap a somewhat cheep intercooler on it? Or should i get my hands on a turbo off of a Cummins. I know the 6.5 Turbo is a direct bolt on assembly. Exactly what all fabrication would be required to slap a Holset on it? and could my motor handle it. I wont be doing a ton of towing. i just want more power so i can keep up with traffic. My plans include no matter what 37'' tires and probably a granny gear 4 speed mated to a NP205 with some 3/4 ton axles. I know the Holset will sing (whistle) like crazy and i love that. Also, what sort of power numbers will i be looking at with both turbos? I plan on this during the summer possibly, so no rush. Gotta get some cash.

HX 40 with an exhaust housing adapter flange and a custom pipe to mate with the downpipe would be the biggest part of the fab work if you choose a turbo with a T3 flange.
Might also be some fab work involved in the oil line and oil drain.
Intercooler would also be a good idea.
No idea on power #'s?

Yeah I'm not looking to make a racer. I just want more power to run 55 up a hill. So... Gm turbo or holset? And I will probably at least do an ebay inter cooler either way.

HX40 is a Holset.

I know that. I was asking should I go with the Holset or the GM turbo.

The jist of what I wrote was to go with the holset.

Ohh gotcha. Ok so the holset would be a better power option. How much fab on the lines? And also what about a cheap ebay air inter cooler?

Also I am probably going to pull the motor out because I have to put a tranny in. I'll do the ARP head studs when I do. Any suggestions in head gaskets and injectors?

And just a small thought... Any ideas or views of a twin turbo setup on these engines?

I think is would be pretty straight forward for the oil lines,a replacement fitting and perhaps some re drilling on the return.
The exhaust outlet will be the most work.

A 300hp intercooler would be a good idea-I have one that is not yet installed,need some more ambition.

I wouldn't go twin turbo,like 1 for each bank but if you could do the math a compound turbo would be trick.

Head gaskets are usually +0.010" if any decking is done.

Make sure to use sealer on the block end of the studs-the holes go into coolant.

Injectors are likely best bought from Rock Auto -Bosch standard duty and then get them pop tested locally-have them set between 2200psi and 2300psi and within 5% of each other.

Check the shop you want to get the pop testing done though,you might find that they can buy bosch,delphi or stanadyne nozzles and rebuild them cheaper than buying new.

Ok thanks. I was thinking of just a air intercooler from ebay since I won't be towing much. Also, any specific type of head gaskets? Brand? Material? And I've also heard a lot about marine injectors. I'll be doing most of this work myself.

Check with your machine shop about head gaskets-what they have the best luck with-copper would likely be best but huge dollars and not sure if they are even available?

Marine injectors are no value whatsoever without the mechanical db4 marine IP.
The IP is the bottleneck-stock injectors can flow more fuel than the IP can deliver and are more than good enough.
