6.5 problem
Ive got a 1999 k3500 with the 6.5 my problem is it idles ok but as soon as i hit the throttle it runs right to redline. If i just tap the peddle it will rev up then go back to idle but when i try to slowly increase the rpms it revs up like i Have the peddle to the floor. It has a 5spd trans and when i try to drive it it revs up supr fast And i have to short shift it just to drive and keep rpms low. Im a.mechanic for a living just ever messed with the 6.5 and am at a loss on this truck. I scanned for codes and got a p0216 and a engine speed over rev code. Any ideas

Does it idles rough? I got that problem with my 6.5TD k2500 1995. I have rough idle and when I push the fuel the rpm go straight to 2000rpm and never go back. Only way to go back idling is by shutting off the truck and restart it. When driving, I can't cruise... I only need to press the fuel a bit and its like I floor it and accelerate by itself or I don't give fuel and it idle. No way driving like this lol.
If you have same symptoms, then maybe the armature in the fuel pump broke. Your injection pump failed because of the lack of lubrication in the fuel and the pump needs to be replaced.
Special thanks to racer55 to teach me :)

A 1/2 ounce of 2 stroke mix oil per gallon of fuel goes a long way to help preserve the life of the IP on the 6.5 and the 6.2 as these pumps were not intended to use this Low sulphur Diesel they are pushing at the pump now a days
