96 6.5 Vacuum system?

I have a 96 6.5 with 5 in exhaust, intake, and #9 resistor. I was wondering if i could build more boost by blocking off the vacuum and just putting a strait pipe for the intake and not having the vacuum system working. In theory, it should work. Only reason Im asking is the truck only builds 7 psi stock and i pull trailers sometimes so i was just wondering if i could do this. The turbo isnt really big enough to build a ton of boost or much boost at all so I might try it unless someone on here has tried it, know someone who has tried it, or know what could happen. Any advice/personal experience?

If you want to control boost manually google "turbomaster",that is the only acceptable non computer controlled boost controller available.

Also be aware that sustained boost over 10psi will set an ECM code without having your chip reprogrammed.

Be aware that a performance chip will make the vac system produce more boost as well if you ask the tuner for that-use their judgement for max boost limits.

The GM turbo is capable of building higher boost below 2400rpm,but it creates a lot of heat in the intake air and in the exhaust-above 2400rpm they fall on their face and make a better turbo option needed like a custom HX 40,or an ATT.

7 psi is stock setting. The vac system is doing what it was designed to do. Protect your engine. If it's working fine leave it alone. Your engine will last alot longer.
The resistor does very little. A tune and a Turbomaster would do more but these are not performance engines. They last alot longer when you leave them alone.
My 98 Suburban had a stock tune and the vac system and I towed a 28 ft camper all over the place with a simle exhaust and cooling upgrade. Want alot more power ? Buy a Cummins.

Im buying a 6.7 next october/december range. Im just wanting to play around with it. It wont be worth anything next year when i buy the cummins so ill just keep it as a work truck or something. im just expanding my options. Would i be able to put a cummins turbo system on it? Such as turbo, intake, and intercooler. Like i said though, im just looking at my options.

Pretty difficult to fit a straight 6 intake on a V8.

HX40 turbo and aftermarket intercooler would be options though, the dodge intercooler is a bit large to fit in the frt of one of our trucks-some guys have fit the Dmax intercooler in though.

I've seen guys use a Dodge one but they did not have an A/C condensor.
How many miles on the truck ?

254k... which is why im buying a dodge next year. Lol thats why it wont be worth anything next year besides sentimental value.

254k...The motor is pretty used up. Although I have seen them go 300+ now is not the time to be pushing it harder. JMHO.
