6.5 turbo diesel stalling

My 1995 silverado 6.5 turbo diesel engine keeps stalling and lacking power, seems like when I see it starting to stall out I see blue/black smoke form exhaust. I changed the pmd twice put it on a heat sink, someone told me it might be the crankshaft sensor is this possible? Any information will be greatly appreciated. This truck has been good to me until now it has me puzzled as to why it's stalling out.The other day I changed the air filter and noticed it was like bent out of shape and made it possible for unfiltered air to slip passed it. what about the glow plugs or injectors will they make it stall? I changed the fuel filter other day as well and poured some lucas fuel treatment in it. What about the fuel shutoff solonoid will it cause stalling problems?

I'm not sure how to answer that. I think you need to read up on Diesel theory some more but Glowplugs have nothing to do with how it runs. Starting aide only. without any other info or codes kinda hard to guess.

you can unplug your crank shaft sensor, ecm will read only from optical sensor. if it fix's your prob then its a bad css. when it stalls, open your fuel filter amd make sure its full, if not you have a air leak or bad lift pump/ops. good luck to you as i to am chasing down a stalling 6.5 ghost:s:

i am having the same issue with my truck. random stalling, sometimes it fires right back up and some times it takes a while.it passes the lift pump test in the driveway but not sure about when it stalls because im usually in the middle of the street and in too much of a panic to check. i tried unpluging the crank sensor in the driveway. when i did it with the truck turned off it wouldnt start so i plugged it back in and then unplugged it while it was running. not sure what this is suppose to do though. my engine changed tone and sounded weird and when you accelerate it stumble when you let off the throttle.one other weird thing is sometimes when you are driving and come to a stop light if you let off the throttle and hit the brakes the truck lets out 2 or 3 big burps almost like an engine brake. it is hard to explain but it is like the vacum pressure of the brakes being applied almost stalled it and the ecm tried to save it.

any thoughts

Its a pin hole in the fuel line before the LP. It wont leak cause its sucking air. if anythin it will just be wet. Mine did the same thing and ive done some others at work like that. they pass lp test and everything, but its pulling enough air to make it hard for the lift pump to keep up under load. next time it dies wire the lp on and open the bleed screw on the filter. mine took 15secs to push fuel back up some times, others it would start right back up.

i fixed a bad line from the fuel filter assembly but havent checked before the lp yet. i thought it might have fixed it because it went a whole day and didnt quit. today i went to the store and it died 3 times. sometime it would fire right back up and sometime it takes alot of cranking. i popped the hood this time and checked the filter assembly and it is full of fuel.

The op on the top of your IP is what you should unplug it will take a while to start but if it does you op is bad. The dealers will tell you its the IP that's bad but sometimes its just the op going bad it will gradually get worse. Good luck.
