What is a good code reader to buy? $150 budget
My 97 Suburban K2500 just gave me the "Service Engine Soon" light after a five minute neighboorhood drive. The only thing I did differently was on a steep down hill I kept it in first and the speed at 10 MPH or less with the brakes for about 100 yards then back to OD and home. It threw the light when I got home about 2 minutes after the downhill.
So I have been needing a code reader anyway and now seems like a good time. I also have a 04 Crown Vic and two Nissan Altimas (04 & 07) that are under my care so I would like one that can work on all four vehicles please. Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome. I do not know where to start and I don't want to spend over $200 unless it is really worth it to do so. Please reccomend brand and name of scanner as I am cluless on the topic. Thank you! ~GOD BLESS~ john |
Check ebay out for a used snap on mt2500 that has domestic/foreign cartridges/adapters for the years of vehicle you own.
To the best of my knowledge support for the "red brick" stops at 2008,but it still a useful tool. |
Thank you

By the way I had the local Advance check the code and while I forget the code# he said it read as something to the effect of " engine did not cycle to proper operating temperature" and then he said he would reset if for me. I have stopped asking since they usually always say no they can't reset so that was a blessing. The Suburban has always run cool since I have had it and perhaps it was due to the very short drive I took it on. The light stayed off all the way home. AMEN! ~GOD BLESS~ john |
Ssdiesel supply has a code reader specifically for 6.5 i dont remember if they have both versions though obd1 and ob2 .

SS Diesel does carry a lot of parts for 6.5's as a re-seller,but is sketchy when it comes to warranty-just be cautious with Walt.
