Chevy 6.5 basic questions

I have a 95 chevy with a 95 6.5 liter dropped in it, and I heard detroit diesel makes the engine but Ive hear its just a chevy engine... Which is it? And I took my muffler out and I am gonna take my cat out too but all these old farts swear up and down that these engines really need back pressure. Hope you all can help

No problem with straight piping the exhaust, but you will get a drone in the cab at higher RPMS.

Diamond Eye exhaust is what most of us switch too so that the stock downpipe gets replaced and the muffler works quite well to drown out the drone but not restrict flow-less than $300 delivered!

The stock down pipe looks like it has been crushed from new and is the biggest restriction in the system,a plugged soot trap is also a big hindrance.Back pressure is for engines with throttle plates.

The engines are now made by GEP/AM General/Navistar(international),originally they were a Detroit design cast by GM.

Ya the down pipe looks like GM took a hammer to them to make em fit. not sure why they thought this was needed.
