1992 2500 td wont run

i just bought a 1992 maybe a 91 2500 6.5 td for 500$ with 230k
i got it home and she sat for a year the owner said he was driving it home and it just shut down to never start again so i buy this thing thinking it will help me learn a thing or two about diesels ( im a killer gasoline mechanic )
i changed the oil and she started and stayed running for twenty or thirty min then the idle got real funky high and low revs then she lost all power and shut down , now when i go to start it i can play with the gas she will rev up and shut down about three seconds later .
my questions are how do i check the left pump ? ive tried feeling it when it was trying to be cranked i cannot find the T VALVE that ppl are saying it located by the filter ,
if i tried to take the fuel filter off and start it should it sprat fuel every where ?
second i cant find my PMD on the IP does this year have one ??? online i only seen the for 94 and up

BTW
i know i made a type o in my screen name
:)

there are several simple ways to check the lift pump. My personal favorite is to remove the plug from the oil pressure switch. Using a jumper wire, connect the two outer terminals and the lift pump will run if it works. Using this method, I find it easy to open and close the fuel filter air bleed.

The T-valve is not located near the fuel filter, but rather at the front of the engine, and should be secured to the thermostat housing. I always open the fuel filter bleeder, and then move to the t-valve.

Pre-94 engines are mechanical injection and do not use a PMD or an ECU for the engine. Other than starting, glowplugs, and charging systems, the engine doesn't have much for electronics.

BTW... two typos in your screen name lol

If you run a wire to the G terminal on the ALDL port under your dash to the positive terminal on a battery will run the lift pump, and the T valve is located at the front top of the engine by the oil filler neck

If youre getting air and fuel constantlu, you probably have a leak before the lift pump. It may be in tank or at the rubber line connection on top of the tank
