:wow::wow::wow: SWEET RIDES!!!! I love just about anything classic car or truck. I was watching tv this morning, and modern marvels was doing the subject of muscle cars, how they came to be, and how they work!!:yeah: Unfortunately though, I had to leave about 20 minutes into it.:dang:

Since it is a truck oriented site... how about my '48 Dodge the day I towed it home. AND It does have a 12 Valve in it!....12 valve 218cid Flathead 6, that is :tttt:
Attachment 37591 I'd like to drop a 392 Hemi with Dual 4BBL's in that, you know a period correct "resto-mod" Now, If I could find one that was missing the engine & transmission, I'd build a wicked Turbo Diesel 4x4 out of it :rocking: And drive it everywhere :tu: |
The turbo diesel 4x4 idea sounds alot better to me. Plus the fuel mileage on that gasser hemi would kill ya. I personally prefer something that really stands out. EVERYONE is putting hemis into old cars and trucks these days. I notice something on almost ALL motor conversions into old trucks. the filler cap is moved outside the cab. I know it isa safetey thing, but it takes away from the original look. When I was thinking of putting a 2nd gen cummins into a 55 Chevy 2-ton truck, I wanted to redirect the filler neck and cut a hole in the floor of the cab that would then bend about 30 to 45 degrees towards the tank in the frame. That way, you dont have the fuel fumes in the cab, you still retain the location, look, and function of the original filler neck, and still safely put the tank away from the cab. Not much point to that, just thought I would mention.

Everyone has their own opinion. I just like it because most cummins go into 70s stuff forward. whether its a hemi or a diesel, post a lot of pics

It's one of those "Sunny Sunday" trucks, I'm also considering leaving it stockish (with the Flathead) and throwing a vintage 1940's Centrifugal Supercharger on it. Simply because nobody builds up a Flathead anymore
The truck actually only has 48,000 original miles on it, was last driven in 1977 and was a 1-family "farm truck" before I bought it. A factory 4-Speed on the Floor truck. It's the curse of buying a nice original vehicle, it hurts to modify them (which is why I prefer to find neglected engineless vehicles when I want to modify a classic) I constantly keep an eye out (when funds allow it) for another 1930's / 1940's Dodge Truck that's been beat and neglected that I wouldn't feel bad about modifying. If I find one, I'd set a Wrecker/Towtruck Bed on it, convert it to a Turbo Diesel 4x4 and drive it around (after repainting it and apply the logo & phone number for my shop to the doors). It'd be a sweet rig to have fun with and promote the family business/garage at the same time. That was probably the first time it had been started in over 30 years :scare2: That was the same day I brought it home, managed to find a 6 Volt Battery collecting dust on the shelves in the garage, and with the help of a vintage 6v/12v battery charger/booster my dad & I were able to get it fired up. I also tried to get spark plugs for it, and when I gave my friend the part number (he owns/operates the local Federated Auto Parts) he searched for a while and then called me back and laughed. "That part number you got off those spark plugs.... Is over 50 years old!" So I had him order in a set of Autolite Platinum plugs for it instead (that took a bunch of cross referencing and a few days before we finally found a set) |
48k???!!!:scare2::scare2::scare2::scare2: I agree, I dont feel comfortable breaking up an old classic unless its motor or tranny is shot. Yeah, no one ever builds up a flathead anymore. Keep it up man!!
