Adoption
This may be a weird question but im freakin lost. So my father was adopted at birth but it wasnt a typical adoption. What I know from the story is his birth monther was very young and her husband was killed in the war while she was pregnant, her friend came to her and offered to adopt him and she agreed. This is something I new nothing about until after my father passed away, my mom told me thinking I might like to find his birth family. My mother suggested I ask my fathers side of the family and since his adoptive parents have both also passed away that left aunts, unles and cousins. I called a few people and was told by most that is was something never talked about in the family, a great aunt told me she knew information but had to call me back when she had time to tell me all of it. It has been about 6 years since those phone calls and pretty much my fathers side of the family wont talk to me any more.
I have started searching again but really have no idea if I can really even search what so ever. From what I have seen most states now will let you see the original birth cert. but you have to be the adoptive parent, brother, sister, adopted child ect.
Does anyone have a any experience in this that can lead me atleast in some sort of starting point. Or am I wasting my time?

The best advice I can give you is to sign up on http://www.ancestry.com/?o_xid=21896&o_lid=21896
it's not free but it is an awesome resource you can find anyone as long as you have a name, birth date, or state they were born. You can also buy copy's of birth certificates if the person is deceased. If you do sign up let me know and I'll help ya look I love doing that kind of stuff.
Good luck!

Not being funny, but Montel Williams loves to do this kind of stuff. Might call his show and ask for the number of some of his contacts. I am sure they can atleast give you some advice.
I agree with MM also on ancestry.com, some of my father's 2nd and 3rd cousins notified me via email last year looking for my mother. She is remarried and had not idea how to track her down. They did the whole family tree thing, Google searched my name and found my website with my email.

The only thing that im not sure about is that because he was adopted straight from birth im not really sure if he ever had a birth certificate with his mothers name on it. Also from what I have read even if he did have a original brith certificate with his mother name it is techincaly closed until someone that qualifies asks for it.
As far as Montel Williams back when I originally started this I did send them a email asking them if they can give me any help or suggestions and never got a reply. I did think that maybe a private investigator would maybe be able to help me but assumed they probably wanted a good amount of $$ for doing that.

Ok with the info you have given so far your dads mother decided to let her friend adopt him. So more than likely they probably lived together for at least a short time. If you could find a census report for the year he was born you could find her.
Or If you an idea of where they lived when he was adopted then you could find military records for his father by searching for men in that area that died in the war. If you find some men which you will you can view their military death files and it will give his wifes name and it will say if she was pregnant. All this can be done on Ancestry.com.
You could also check the news papers for around the date he was born and it will probably have her name there as well.
hope this helps

it sounds to me like the family has something to hide personally, my family on both sides is like this......i get nothing........especially when NO ONE will talk about "strange" stuff that happens in the family.....i finally found a distant cousin that had did a complete ancestery on the "Stanforth" part of my family, it went back to 1755 when we came here from england.....as far back in england my name goes to early 1600's......
