V10 Swap F150 Help
Hey Guys, havn't been on in a while. Anyways, I need a little help. I helped this guy out keeping his lawnmowers running for years, and the other day he gave me his old f150 for free (well not too old-a 93!) It needs a new motor in it, (the old 302 is done!).
Well, I was looking for 351/5speed combos for sale on craigslist. All that stopped when I was told we'd be scrapping a v10 exersion left abandoned at the shop....and that I could have the v10 with the wiring harness inside it! Now, I was left with the problem of a transmission. I ALSO found a free zf5 out of an 87 6.9 diesel. Does anyone on here know if the zf5 from a 6.9 will bolt up to a v10 triton? If you can answer this question I'll owe you one, and will deffinentally give you props when it's done. Also any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks Guys! |
Well you won't know unless you try it. You could always make an adapter plate easy enough granted the input shaft fits

You'd be farther ahead to buy a V-8 because you'll get tired of feeding that V-10 real soon. :c:

i would imagine the gas mileage on the V-10 is around 5 gallons a mile +/-

I have a buddy with a 5 speed v- 10 and gets 12 MPH +/- There good for the mountains realy torqy SOBS, but yea hope its not your DD with $4 Gasoline. Who wants to go boring for oil? lol

Not sure on the bell on the V10, but the ZF5 will have the same bell as a 7.3 PSD, slightly different from a BBF.
|
wonder what gets worse MPG? the puny 5.4 V8 under a 3/4 ton truck, or the V10? :argh:

thats not too bad
|
O, I should have mentioned that means 12-12.5mpg.

I think you're being real generous there and another thing is the V-10 don't run worth a crap unless you run premium. They do have good power though. :c:

You do realize that we're talking about the Triton V10, right?

I'd think the V10 in the F150 would scoot pretty good. Who cares about mileage, obviously if the guy is asking about shoe-horning a V10 into a 1/2 ton... he probably doesn't care.
As for the trans bolting up, not sure on that one, but I can't imagine finding a manual to bolt up to it would be very hard. You'd be farther ahead finding something that didn't need an adapter plate, that's for sure. I think destroked sells adapters for about $700-$900 for most engine/trans combos. I'd imagine there are plenty of work trucks out there that had the V10 and a manual behind it though. That sure would be cool. Though you'd probably be miles ahead just getting another 302 to stuff in there. Either way, your call and let us know how you make out! :c: |

As far as I know the Triton V10 is the only V10 Ford makes, of course all of the ones I've drove were Cab and chassis Dually's with aluminum body's on them, not pickups. :c:

Ok, I've yet to find a Triton V10 that I was impressed with in the power department... I still haven't played with the dodge V10.

The Dodge V10's I rode in were turds. Though I've never been overly impressed with the Ford V10 either.
Well there was this one V10 Dodge I rode in that scooted pretty good, but it was 8.3 L and it was inside of an SRT 10 viper. Yeah, that one seemed to have decent power. |
