EVER SEE AN ICEBERG

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM?

This is awesome! This came from a Rig Manager for Global Marine Drilling in St. Johns, Newfoundland. They actually have to divert the path of these things away from the rig by towing them with ships! Anyway, in this particular case the water was calm and the sun was almost directly overhead so that the diver was able to get into the water and click this pic. Clear water huh?! They estimated the weight at 300,000,000 tons.

Wow. Cool pic.:U:

That is a photomontage not an actual picture and it wasnt taken by a drilling manager for Global Marine. Ice bergs are pretty cool to study though. :)

Snoops says it is a fake...

thats a big icecube

I have seen that pic elsewhere. Dont know if it is real or not, could really care less. But that is true though, most of an iceberg's mass is below the water line. I think this has to do with the water in the region of oceans where icebergs live is cold enough compared to above water level that the bottom melts a lot slower than the top. And logical deduction of why more is under the water level than above is too logical for me to figure out but I would assume it is all density related and weight related and such.

Go icebergs!

Naw... As they melt the heavier end will always stay down. So if the bottom starts to melt faster than the part in the air it will flip over. And as for the picture, everything looks bigger under water as opposed to above water.
